suspicious quotes – the unexpected use of quotation marks for emphasis rather than for an unusual sense of the word. "Women's" restroom  upstairs (Will some other type of person be using the room?)  Made "fresh". (Is there some other process called fresh?) Employees must "wash hands". (Will they be just pretending to do so?)
